Trendspotting in Barcelona
Silestone selected 5 designers from around the country for the Trendspotter program. We ventured to Barcelona for inspiration and to the Cosentino factory to create our own, new counter top color.
Famous words by Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso.
This last month, the Silestone Trendspotters traveled with Silestone USA and Cosentino to the land of this incredible visionary.
Walking the streets of Barcelona, I can see why artists like Picasso and Antonio Gaudi were so inspired.
Silestone hosted the Trendspotters in Spain with two goals in mind:
Hunt for design inspiration.
Create our own countertop color.
From bikes, produce markets, store fronts, architecture…Barcelona is full with streets of color…
We ventured down to the Silestone factory in Macael, Spain. Around a table, 5 designers from different regions of the US sat as one unified team to discuss design trends, colors, textures, materials and ideas for improvements in the solid surfaces industry.
Fellow Trendspotters include Julia Buckingham (Chicago), Courtney Cachet (NYC), Kerrie Kelly (Sacramento), and Mark Williams (Atlanta).
It was electrifying to sit at a table with cohesive, passionately creative people. The stars truly aligned for what will be the “Influencer Series” from Silestone, to be revealed at KBIS 2015 in Las Vegas.
Brainstorming colors for new solid surfaces, we gathered around this table with markers and glue sticks. I couldn’t help but think back to Picasso’s point. YES! All children ARE artists! And now I find myself around a table with adults who have chosen to KEEP BEING ARTISTS.
We gave honest feedback on dozens of Silestone and Dekton slab designs in development.
The ideas that emerged are exciting and will be revealed in Vegas at KBIS 2015! Celebratory dinner to complete the trip was Spanish style in the courtyard of a cathedral... at sunset, of course.
