Live from New York City

Kim Lewis

I recently visited New York to film TV and radio interviews offering tips on updating your kitchen in time for the holidays! The best place to start is with one of my favorite things... COLOR!

Benjamin Moore
An immediate, easy way to incorporate color is by painting your space. Everyone always asks me, "What is the "it-color"?  Benjamin Moore has named Simply White OC-117 its Color of the Year – recognizing white as a timeless and versatile design statement. Additionally, they've identified a Color Trends palette made up of 23 colors that show how Simply White can be layered with other whites or paired with hues ranging from soft pastels to vibrant brights. I pulled some of my favorites here, as well as some kitchen inspirations.

Silestone:
Countertops can make a huge impact—especially when it’s a fresh new color. My go-to material is always quartz—it comes in a ton of colors and is incredibly durable and stain-resistant in comparison to other surfaces like granite and marble. I recently designed Olivia—a new neutral that brings the beauty of the outdoors in—in partnership with Silestone.

Kohler:
People often assume they have to go with stainless steel for their kitchen sink, but cast iron is a colorful and durable option. An apron-front sink, commonly known as a Farmhouse from Kohler, gives a bigger splash of color and adds so much charm. Swapping out your faucet is also a fast fix. Think in terms of fashion when selecting the faucet. The faucet is truly an accessory for the kitchen —like a favorite necklace that completes an outfit. Have fun with a new finish! Whether it’s a polished chrome or oil-rubbed bronze.
